Turkish club Trabzonspor are aiming to conclude negotiations for Southampton striker Paul Onuachu by next week, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Trabzonspor president Ertuğrul Doğan revealed to Turkish media that the club are still in talks to re-sign the Nigeria international, who impressed during his loan spell last season.
“He reiterated that he wanted to stay. His club slowly came down with the figure. Hopefully, we want to finish this work next week. The process is progressing positively, but if not, there is a plan B,” Doğan stated.
Southampton have reportedly reduced their asking price to €10 m, but Trabzonspor have yet to meet this valuation. The Turkish side are considering alternatives, with AC Milan’s Divock Origi mentioned as a potential backup option.
Onuachu, 30, made a significant impact during his loan spell at Trabzonspor last season, scoring 17 goals in 25 appearances across all competitions.
Despite being under contract with Southampton until June 2026, Onuachu’s future remains uncertain. The Saints’ relegation to the Championship has fueled speculation about the striker’s potential departure.
Trabzonspor’s pursuit of Onuachu underscores their determination to bolster their attacking options for the upcoming season. However, they remain cautious in their approach, with Doğan emphasising the existence of alternative targets should negotiations with Southampton falter.
