Trabzonspor and Southampton have reached an agreement for a €7m fee for Paul Onuachu after a prolonged negotiation between both clubs, according to Turkish outlet Yomra Sonhaber, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Onuachu caught the attention of the Saints after an impressive performance for KRC Genk in the 2022/23 in the Belgian First Division A. Southampton paid €18m to sign him during the January transfer window that year.

The lanky striker failed to replicate his fantastic form in the Premier League as he struggled to adapt to life in England. He failed to score in all 12 of his appearances for the Saints, which led to a season-long loan move to Trabzonspor.

At the Black Sea Storm, Onuachu scored 17 goals and provided four assists in 25 matches, catching the eye of Trabzonspor, who are now keen to make his stay at the club permanent.

Last Saturday, Trabzonspor president Ertuğrul Doğan revealed to Turkish media that the club were in talks to re-sign the Nigeria international, with the hope of completing the deal this week.

At the start of the negotiations, Southampton were hoping to recoup the €18m they spent on the striker before reducing their asking price to €10m, which Trabzonspor still failed to accept.

Meanwhile, there seems to be an end to the talks, with both clubs said to have agreed on a €7m fee for the 30-year-old.

“The transfer of Onuachu, whom Trabzonspor Club President Ertuğrul Doğan and Technical Director Abdullah Avcı have been working hard to add to the squad, is nearing completion,” the website wrote.

It added, “English team Southampton have reduced the license fee of the Nigerian striker to €7m. While Onuachu has started training with Southampton, his transfer to Trabzonspor is seen as a matter of time.

Trabzonspor’s pursuit of Onuachu underscores their determination to bolster their attacking options for the upcoming season.”
