Transfer Deadline: Wolves Sign Sam Johnstone From Crystal Palace

Wolverhampton Wanderers have finalized the signing of Crystal Palace goalkeeper Sam Johnstone for a transfer fee reported to be around £10 million.

Sam Johnstone, 31, has committed to a four-year contract with Wolves, bringing an end to his two-season tenure with the Eagles.

This development transpired following Wolves’ unsuccessful attempts to secure the services of Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, who now appears poised to join Southampton.

Wolves packaged a deal for Ramsdale, proposing a loan arrangement with an option to purchase for approximately £20 million, but the negotiation did not come to fruition.

In his remarks regarding the signing, Wolves’ sporting director Matt Hobbs highlighted the significance of adding a player with extensive Premier League experience and international acclaim to the team.

Hobbs said: “It’s great for us to have a player with a huge amount of Premier League experience and an international goalkeeper.

“It’s finding the right balance between the level of investment, what it adds to the squad and what it enables us to do for the rest of the squad.”

Goalkeeper Johnstone, who launched his career at Manchester United, has garnered four senior England caps and has made 34 appearances for Palace since joining on a free transfer from West Brom in 2022.

In addition to securing Johnstone’s services, Wolves are also on the verge of finalizing the signing of Fluminense midfielder Andre for a reported fee of £21 million.
