Tsamiya Dry Port Opens For Business In Kano

The Tsamiya dry port in Kebbi State has opened a clearing office  in Kano to enhance business activities for businessmen in Northern Nigeria.

Speaking during the commissioning of the Kano trade office on Wednesday, the Controller General of the Nigeria Custom Service, Bashir Adeniyi, who was represented by the Zone B comptroller, ACG Sambo Dangaladima, noted the occasion marks a crucial step towards the re-opening of the Segbana-Tsamiya border in Kebbi State.

According to him, in May 2024, a high level delegation from Nigeria met with its counterparts from Benin republic and discussed important issues regarding opening of the border with the aim to fast track the operationalisation of the border post focussing on logistics, security measures, economic impact among others.

“The establishment of this trade office in Kano, a major commercial hub underscores the importance of Kano as a key centre of commerce and highlights importance of streamlining business processes in the region.

, including the establishment of an export terminal to support local industries as well as aligning with the federal government’s broader goals of addressing food security and strengthening economic ties within Nigeria and across its borders.

While reiterating NCS commitment in implementing and enforcing the government policies and directives to achieve economic growth and development, he urged the business communities to ensure due taxes are paid and also sincerity in their business.

In his remarks, director of Corporation of Custom, Benin, col. Idriso Imorou, noted that the Customs at Benin would ensure goods that come through the Tsamiya border are safely guided without unnecessary delay in goods clearance up to the Tsamiya border.

While stressing on a harmonious working relationship between customs of both countries for a smooth business transaction, he however urged both the president of Benin and Nigeria to reduce taxes burden on goods in order to reduce the effect on the masses for a social economic growth.

The Tsamiya clearing office  in Kano tends to support and facilitate business for Kano businessmen in Benin Republic, to promote and leverage trades agreements that allow for Kano goods to be cleared in Cotonou, enhancing cross border trade and also reduce delays and cost for importers and exporters using the Cotonou ports.
