Justice M.O. Omovie of a High Court sitting in Ibusa, Delta State, yesterday, sentenced two men, Mr Ojerbo Solomon and Mr Ola Babatunde, to death by hanging, for killing a woman and her daughter on February 8, 2016.
The convicts were sentenced for murder, armed robbery, and sexual assault perpetrated on the deceased in Ibusa town.
The prosecutor, Mr E.H. Edema, through five witnesses, told the court that on February 8, 2016, the two convicts, while armed with guns, cutlasses, and knives, broke into the house of the deceased, assaulted them sexually, and thereafter, slit their throats.
He said one of the victims, Praise Sunday, was lucky to have survived the attack, while his mother and sister died.
The prosecutor said after committing the offence, the convicts escaped to Ewohimi in Edo State with a motorcycle belonging to one of the victims. There, they were apprehended by the police.
During the trial, the two convicts gave evidence in their defence and denied the allegations without calling any witness.
Justice Omovie, after carefully listening to both parties, said the prosecution had proved the case against the two convicts beyond reasonable doubt, and accordingly sentenced them to death by hanging.
