Two commissioners in Abia State have reportedly resigned from their positions.

The affected commissioners are Professor Monica Ironkwe, Commissioner for Agriculture, and Chima Oriaku, Commissioner for Science and Technology.

Despite widespread speculation that the commissioners were dismissed by Governor Alex Otti, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ukoha Njoku, clarified the situation.

According to Vanguard, in response to inquiries, Njoku confirmed via message that the commissioners voluntarily resigned and were not sacked.

“The two Commissioners resigned from the cabinet. No one was sacked. Disregard the trending rumour,” Njoku stated.

This development follows closely on the heels of the recent suspension of the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ngozi Okoronkwo, about a month ago.

Dr. Okoronkwo was suspended pending an investigation into allegations of gross misconduct. The panel, chaired by Deputy Governor Ikechukwu Emetu, has yet to release its findings.

Governor Otti, known for his strict stance on corruption and underperformance, had previously warned all members of his administration to uphold these values during their tenures.

The state government is yet to release an official statement on the development.
