Multiple crashes paralyse traffic along Iyana-Oworo-Berger road

Two people were reportedly killed in a road crash at the busy Long Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway yesterday.

The Guardian learnt that the incident involved a Mazda saloon car with registration number EDE217XB and a MAN diesel truck marked AJL715XA.

Two out of the three occupants travelling in the Mazda saloon car lost their lives, while one sustained injury.

The injured victim has been taken to the Hope-land Hospital Warewa, while the remains of the deceased were deposited at Real Divine Hospital morgue, Ibafo.

According to AkinwumiFasakin, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun Sector Command, obstruction and fatigue were the suspected causes of the crash.

The obstruction was cleared off the road, and a free traffic flow was restored.

Also, a multiple crash along the Iyana-Oworo-Berger expressway paralysed vehicular movement.

The Guardian learnt that the incident involved a containerised truck (registration number unknown), a commercial bus, and six other unidentified vehicles.

Confirming the development, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Nosa Okunbor, said no lives were lost and no injuries were sustained in the incident.

He said: “At about 6:46 a.m., Following distress calls to LASEMA through its toll-free emergency lines, the agency activated its Tiger Response Team from the Command and Control Centre, Alausa.

“Upon arrival of the Tiger Team at the incident scene, the LASEMA Response Team (LRT) discovered a containerised truck, a commercial bus and six other unidentified vehicles were involved in a multiple road accident.

“Investigations conducted by the LRT revealed that the accident occurred when the containerised truck suffered a mechanical error that brought it to a sudden halt while in motion. This resulted in the impact that led to multiple collisions at the location mentioned above.

“Fortunately, no lives were lost, nor were any injuries sustained due to the incident. All vehicles involved in the multiple road accidents have been recovered and towed to the Ogudu Police Station, including the truck and the commercial bus.

“The road is now cleared and re-opened for public use.”
