Two persons lost their lives after some farmers and herders clashed in the Poushi and Kalindi communities of Billiri Local Government Area of Gombe State.
PUNCH Metro gathered from a report released by the National Emergency Management Agency on its X page on Wednesday that the assessment was carried out following a report by the Senator representing the Billiri/Balanga Senatorial District in the state about the incident.
It revealed that following the report, a preliminary investigation by the NEMA team revealed that two persons were killed while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
The clash was also said to have led to the destruction of houses, agricultural produce and livestock.
“The assessment team led by the Head of Operations, proceeded to the Poushi and Kalindi communities in the Billiri Local Government Area.
“Preliminary reports indicated that two persons have been killed, others escaped with different degrees of injuries following the two days of clashes between crop farmers and cattle herders.
“Residents said the attack also led to the destruction of vital agricultural produce, livestock and livelihood items while several houses were burnt,” the assessment report noted.
PUNCH Metro reported on December 19 that the Cross River State Police Command summoned herders and farmers in Ikot Inyang Community, Odukpani Local Government Area, to peace meetings following the clash between them on December 3, 2024.
The spokesperson for the command, Irene Ugbo, had in a statement said that the altercation occurred around 9:00 am, prompting a swift intervention from Commissioner of Police, CP Augustine Grimah.
The CP deployed the Akamkpa Area Commander and Tactical Commanders to de-escalate tensions and restore order in the community.
