Nigeria’s Enefiok Udo-Obong has been appointed technical director of the Saudi Arabia Athletic Development Programme.
Udo-Obong will lead the Saudi Arabia athletics team to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
The appointment was confirmed during the send forth event organised for the Olympics gold medalist by the Lagos Lagos State Athletics Association (LSAA) on Thursday.
The former 400m athlete previously served as LSAA’s technical director.
While appreciating his service to the state, LSAA chairman, Solomon Alao described the olympian as a forerunner, saying he was the brain behind the state’s developmental programme.
“With his guidance, the Lagos State Athletics Association hosted more competitions than any other body across the nation, and was directly responsible for competitions, especially the Deji Tinubu Lagos series, for over 50 athletes getting scholarships to the United States,” he said.
Alao announced that Billy Disu would act in the interim as Udo-Obong’s successor.
In his response, Udo-Obong expressed gratitude to the LSAA for the opportunity to serve, promising to always provide assistance from his new base.
“I will be in touch and look for ways to help the state and Nigeria, even from Saudi Arabia,” he said.
