The Osun State University, UNIOSUN, has appointed 27 new teaching assistants as part of its strategic initiative to nurture the next generation of scholars and outstanding researchers.

This move, UNIOSUN management said, is in line with the university’s vision to promote academic excellence and equip postgraduate students with the skills and knowledge necessary for success in both academic and professional spheres.

The university’s spokesperson, Ademola Adesoji, made this known in a statement issued and made available to DAILY POST on Monday.

Adesoji said: “The selection process, which took place between May and June 2024, invited applications for Teaching Assistantship positions at Grades I and II.

“These positions were specifically open to postgraduate students enrolled in PhD and academic master’s programmes for the 2023/2024 academic session.”

Adesoji further said that the postgraduate college, which coordinated the programme, received a total of 32 applications, with 18 candidates applying for Grade I position and 14 for Grade II.

“Following a meticulous screening process, 16 candidates were selected for Grade I, and 11 were chosen for Grade II. The rigorous selection process ensured that the successful candidates not only had a deep understanding of their specialised fields but also demonstrated strong general knowledge, good character, articulate communication skills, and a steadfast commitment to academic excellence,” he stated.

The newly appointed teaching assistants, according to the statement, “will contribute to the development of teaching materials and assist in delivering course content while continuing to advance their own academic research.”

Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Odunayo Clement Adeboye, encouraged the successful candidate to embrace continuous learning and adaptability.

“This initiative highlights UNIOSUN’s ongoing efforts to create an environment where both students and staff are empowered to make meaningful contributions to the university’s mission of achieving academic excellence and societal impact through painstaking research.

“The appointment of these teaching assistants marks a significant step towards realizing this vision, further solidifying UNIOSUN’s reputation as a leading institution in higher education,” he said.
