Unknown Gunmen Murder Traditional Ruler, Son In Taraba

In a tragic incident in Taraba State, another traditional ruler has been brutally killed.

The third-class chief of Chanchanji, in Takum local government area, Alhaji Tanimu Kunbiya, and his son, Yusuf Kunbiya, were murdered by unidentified gunmen on Friday evening.

Naija News gathered that the attack occurred on the Takum-Chanchanji road as the monarch was returning from a burial ceremony. The incident has plunged the area into tension and unrest.

This comes shortly after the village head of Usmanu in Karim-Lamido local government area, Alhaji Auwal Abubakar, and his younger brother were also recently killed by gunmen.

The state police spokesperson, Gambo Kwache, confirmed the killings to DAILY POST on Saturday morning.

We received a report that the third class chief of Chanchanji and his son were ambushed and killed in Jakudi village,” he said.

He added that more heavily armed police and other security agencies have been deployed to the area to restore peace and order.

The Tiv Cultural and Social Association, through its President General, Chief James Baka, condemned the killings in a statement. He urged the government and security agencies to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.

Chief Baka also called on the community to remain calm and allow security operatives to carry out their duties.
