Uruguay’s coach, Marcelo Bielsa, recently expressed his views, stating that football is in decline.

Bielsa speaks on football’s decline

Speaking as captured by Eurofoot.com, the former national Argentina coach stressed how less attractive football is gradually becoming.

"I am convinced that football is in decline," he said. "It is becoming less attractive because what made it the world's greatest game is disappearing."

Bielsa argued that prioritising business over the enjoyment of the game, particularly with the introduction of technologies like Video Assistant Referee (VAR), harms football's essence.

"This sport is unique; when it becomes too predictable, it loses its charm," he added. "As fewer footballers worth watching emerge and the game becomes less enjoyable, artificially inflating viewer numbers will eventually falter."

Bielsa's remarks reflect widespread sentiments among football stakeholders critical of excessive technological interventions in the sport.

Similarly, Netherlands coach, Ronald Koeman, recently criticised VAR in a post-match interview following his team's loss to England in the UEFA Euro semi-final, as reported by Daily Sports.

Earlier. Legit.ng reported Suarez sparked a brawl between Uruguay and Colombia players after his country were eliminated from the 2024 Copa America in the semi-finals.

The former Barcelona forward was caught in a viral clip punching a Colombian coach, which sparked the massive brawl between both sets of players on the pitch.

Suarez, along with some of his Uruguayan teammates, was also involved in a heated argument with several members of the Colombian team.
