Uyi Malaka commends MOWAA for digitizing African heritage sites

Edo is historically known as a place with unique arts and cultural heritage that attract both national and international audience.

This Friday, July 26, 2024, at the Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub and Sound Stage, Edo State Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Tourism, Uyi Oduwa Malaka was a Special guest at an art project put together by the Museum of West African Arts (MOWAA) in collaboration with the National Commission for Museums and Monuments with support from Ford Foundation.

The project titled: “Digitizing African Heritage – The Plaque Corpus”, showcased MOWAA Digital Heritage Lab 3D production of historical perspectives of Benin Plaques, craftsmanship, symbolism and preservation.

The Commissioner who was guided through the art room by Ore Disu, Director, MOWAA was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Iryn Omorogiuwa Esq. and other officials of the Ministry described the exhibition as a memorable event that amply defines the richness of African Arts and its preservation particularly the art works of students’ artists illustrating Benin Plaques. The art exhibition continues.
