The first major pre-season tournament ahead of the 2024-2025 season tagged Value Jet Cup will kick off in Ikenne, Ogun state later today, July 24.
The opening match for the 2024 Value Jet Cup is between newly promoted Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) clubs, Beyond Limits and Ikorodu City at 2 p.m.
Note that in the first edition of the eight-club competition, Beyond Limits, a football academy owned by Remo Stars’ founder, Kunle Soname, made it to the final of the maiden edition. They were defeated in the final by 3SC.
Interestingly, 3SC are in Group A alongside Beyond Limits and their opening match in the pre-season tournament is against Sudanese champions Al Merrikh at 4 p.m. today.
Group B which comprises Remo Stars, Rivers United, Kwara United, and Ijebu United will commence their group campaign on Thursday, July 25.
Meanwhile, the prize pool of the 2024 edition of the Value Jet Cup has increased by 300 percent according to the organizers of the pre-season tournament. The total prize pool is now ₦16 million
The winner of the one-week event will go home with ₦5 million instead of ₦2 million which was the prize money of last year’s edition. The second runner-up will go home with ₦2.5 million.
The grand finale of the tournament has been scheduled for Wednesday, July 31 at the Remo Stars stadium in Ikenna, Ogun state.
