The Board of Trustees (BoT) of Gregory University, Uturu, (GUU), Abia State has elevated its Vice Chancellor, Prof Augustine Uwakwe to Pro-Chancellor/Chairman of the Governing Council.
Also elevated is the Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies, Prof. Celestina Njoku to the position of acting Vice-Chancellor (VC).
Similarly, the former Dean of Environmental Science, Prof. Nnamdi Ekeocha is now the Dean of Post Graduate Studies.
The varsity’s Deputy Registrar, Media and Communication, Sleek Ogwo, confirmed the appointments, stating that Uwakwe’s elevation to Pro-Chancellor followed the successful completion of his tenure as the substantive VC.
He said the new acting VC, Prof Celestina Njoku, joined GUU after serving out her tenure as Rector of Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Imo state to become the second female VC of GUU after Prof Juliet Elu, who was the first female VC.
The new Acting VC, Prof Njoku, while acknowledging his new post, promised to sustain the tempo of his predecessor, by “providing a conducive academic environment, a campus devoid of fear and intimidation, ruled by a high level of discipline, respect for the dignity of man and the pursuit of excellence in all ramifications.”
He also solicited the support and cooperation of both academic and non-academic staff to enable GUU to attain new enviable heights in the core areas of curriculum development, research, entrepreneurship and knowledge transfer.
