Victim of police killing, an ex-student — Kwara varsity

The management of Kwara State University has said that one Ayeyemi Sulaiman who was allegedly killed by the police in the Tanke area of Ilorin, the state capital, last week Tuesday was an ex-student.

KWASU, in a statement signed by the acting Director, University Relations, Dr Saeedat Aliyu, on Tuesday said that Sulaiman was no longer its student as of the time of the incident.

Saedat said, “The management of Kwara State University is compelled to address statements in the media that claimed that the victim of a killing in the Tanke area, Ilorin, is a student of the institution.

“Records in the university show that Aiyeyemi Sulaimon Olayinka had voluntarily withdrawn from the Department of Statistics of the institution since the 2018/2019 session when he was in the 200 level.

“The management of Kwara State University strongly sympathises with the family of the deceased and prays that God gives the family the fortitude to bear the loss.”

Recall that the Kwara State Police command confirmed the alleged killing of a 27-year-old student saying that the police were already aware and had taken action on it.

A statement signed by the spokesperson for the command, DSP Ejire-Adeyemi Toun, confirmed the killing of the student.

“The Kwara State Police Command is aware of this unfortunate incident which led to the sudden death of Suleiman Olayinka (M) 27yrs.

“A complaint of cheating and criminal breach of trust was reported against the deceased. Police detectives were immediately detailed to investigate the case.

Ejire-Adeyemi said that some Policemen had been arrested and detained for the alleged killing and had been put on orderly room trial at the Police Headquarters.

“Meanwhile the officers involved in the incident have been identified, arrested and detained for further investigations as regards the death of the suspect,” Ejire-Adeyemi said.
