Students at the University of Ibadan staged a protest against the administration’s decision to increase tuition fees, expressing concerns about affordability and calling for the fee hike to be reversed.

This was detailed in a statement and video posted by a media personality who identifies as #EmisoLJ on X.com with the tag #FeesMustFall on Friday.

The statement read, “Ongoing protest by University of Ibadan students over tuition fee increments from 25k to 76k to 146k – 412k within two years.

“The resistance is gathering momentum. #FeesMustFall”
The video showed the students marching towards the school’s administrative building, chanting a free education song.

The PUNCH reported on Friday that the students at the University of Ibadan in Oyo State have commenced a fresh protest after the university’s governing council endorsed a recent fee hike.

The demonstrations, which began at midnight on Friday, were reportedly triggered by a circular issued on Thursday by the council’s secretary, G.O. Saliu.

The circular, obtained by The PUNCH, stated that after a meeting on Thursday, the council had “considered the reviewed schedule of levies for newly admitted and returning undergraduate students in the 2023/2024 academic session and approved it as recommended by the university Senate.”
