A visitor to the Erin-Ijesha Waterfalls in Osun State has expressed disappointment over the state of disrepair, citing litter, erosion, and lack of maintenance.

The concerned citizen called on the Osun State Government to take immediate action to preserve and conserve the Erin-Ijesha Waterfalls.

Sharing the video on Facebook on Monday, Prince Isaac Fayose wrote, “Erin-Ijesha Waterfalls. What a shame. A poor state like Osun, sitting on a potential money earner has decided to abandon this in favour of almighty federal allocation.”

A voice in the video was heard saying in part, “I am sorry to be very emotional about this. I think it is a real shame that people will come here and disrespect our heritage like this.

“They are literarily defecating on us, urinating on us. They are literarily destroying our heritage and we look on because we collect peanuts. I think it’s a real shame.”

The Osun State Government has announced plans to upgrade several tourist sites in the state, including the popular Erin Ijesha Waterfalls.

This move comes after public outcry over the site’s current condition.

The government also announced plans to oversee the upgrade and management of Erin Ijesha Waterfalls, stating that a tripartite committee will be formed, involving the government, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and the local community.

The state Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, made the disclosure in response to a recent viral video on the state of Erin Osun Water Falls, announcing that the government is implementing a systemic upgrade after decades of neglect by previous administrations.

The commissioner noted that the tourism infrastructure upgrade plan covers the Osun Groove, Owala Inland Beach Resort in Olorunda Local Government Area, Sango Timi Shrine in Ede Local Government Area, Ayunkunnugba Waterfalls in Oke-Ila Orangun, in Ifedayo Local Government Area and other cultural sites.
