A vigilante group leader in the Ja’en community, Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State, Mukhtar Baballiya, has been stabbed to death during a clash with some hoodlums.
The Kano State Police Command confirmed the death in a statement on Wednesday.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa said the incident occurred on Tuesday night.
Kiyawa said their personnel responded swiftly to the scene and brought the situation under control.
He said, “The incident occurred on Tuesday night when the vigilance group leader attempted to intervene in a dispute between Ja’en Makera and Ja’en Unguwar Lalle thugs, during which he was stabbed and pronounced dead on arrival at the Emergency unit.”
He added that one suspect has been apprehended in connection with the incident.
“The vigilante group leader was rushed to the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.
“The State Commissioner of the Police Command, Usaini Muhammad Gumel., just promoted AIG, assured residents that investigations have begun to fish out the culprits, assuring that they remain committed to the maintenance of peace and security in the areas.”
