The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has said indiscipline will not be tolerated from personnel of the paramilitary under him.

Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo said this in reaction to a viral video of a Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) officer who was begging a foreign passenger for money at Murtala Mohammed International Airport, in Lagos.

In the video, an Assistant Superintendent of Immigration, Okpravero Ufuoma, insisted he preferred money to the foreign passenger buying something for him.

According to the NIS Comptroller General, Kemi Nanna Nandap, Ufuoma has been indefinitely suspended. In a statement on Thursday morning, Nandap said Ufuoma’s begging act was unethical and misrepresented the service.

She warned that NIS, under her leadership, has zero tolerance for corruption and unprofessional acts.

The NIS reiterates its commitment to identifying and removing corrupt elements within its ranks, in line with our Zero-Tolerance for Corruption policy.

“We assure the public that the NIS will continue to strive for excellence in service delivery, in alignment with the Renewed Hope Agends of this administration,” Mrs Nandap said.

In reaction to the video, on Thursday, posted on his X handle, Tunji-Ojo said Ufuoma’s act was the highest form of unprofessionalism and remained condemned.

He said, “Indiscipline has no place in any of the paramilitary services under the Ministry of Interior. It is the highest form of unprofessionalism and remains condemned.”
