The federal government, through the Ministry of Youths and Development, has reaffirmed its dedication to empowering the youth by fostering an entrepreneurial spirit crucial for national progress.

The minister of Youths and Development, Dr Jamila Bio Ibrahim, emphasised this commitment during the commemoration of International Youth Day, themed “From Click to Progress: Youth Digital Pathway for Sustainable Development,” organised by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Abuja.

“The Ministry of Youths and Development is deeply committed to unleashing the entrepreneurial spirit of our youths and propelling them to the forefront of our nation’s progress,” Dr Ibrahim stated.

She explained that under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership, empowering the young people has been a key focus.

While highlighting President Tinubu’s vision, Ibrahim said, „Mr. President has repeatedly emphasised his desire to be remembered as a leader who not only empowered young people but also invested in them. He has not only given us a seat at the decision-making table but has also tasked us with creating an enabling environment and platforms for youth investment.”

Speaking on the event’s theme, she announced the upcoming launch of a national scheme programme that will leverage digital technology to equip young people with essential skills across various sectors.

„The Presidential Initiative on Youth Enterprises and the National Youths Program have identified digital sectors as priority areas for development.

„ We are implementing digital skills training in hubs nationwide,“ she said, expressing gratitude for the UNDP‘s support in organising a two-day dialogue to shape a future where Nigerian youth can lead in a global economy.

At the event, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, urged youths to remain hopeful and assured them of a brighter future.

Also, the resident representative of UNDP Nigeria, Ms. Elsie G. Attafua, reiterated the organisation‘s commitment, saying, „We are dedicated to building a future where young entrepreneurs like you are equipped with the digital skills to thrive, where your voices are amplified on global platforms, and where your innovations are recognised as vital contributions to our collective progress.“
