‘We’ve discussed’ – Marketers’ update on meeting with Dangote Refinery

Petroleum marketers said they are waiting for Dangote Refinery to get a final decision from the management of the $20 billion refinery for the direct lifting of its Petroleum Motor Spirit (Petrol).

The president of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, Abubakar Maigandi, disclosed this in an exclusive interview with DAILY POST on Monday.

His comments come after the marketers earlier revealed that they have commenced discussion with Dangote Refinery to kick off the direct lifting of its petrol.

IPMAN said the direct lifting of Dangote Petrol by its members will reduce the price of petrol, which currently sells between N950 and N1,100 per litre.

In an update regarding the IPMAN meeting with Dangote Refinery, Maigandi explained that marketers expect feedback from the Lagos-based refinery this week.

“We are still discussing with Dangote Refinery for direct lifting of its petrol. We are waiting this week to hear the outcome of the discussion,” he told DAILY POST.

DAILY POST recalls that upon lifting Dangote Petrol on September 15, 2024, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited increased the pump price of fuel to N950 and N1,100 per litre across its retail outlets nationwide.

The state-owned firm was the sole taker of Dangote Petrol on September 15.

NNPCL had revealed that it bought Dangote Petrol at N898. However, Dangote Group disagreed with NNPCL but did not reveal the price of Dangote Petrol.

The President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, during a recent interview with Bloomberg Television, revealed that Dangote Petrol is 15 per cent cheaper than imported ones.

In a related development, the members of the House of Representatives at the National Assembly had asked Dangote Refinery to reveal its petrol price and sell directly to oil marketers.
