Why gospel artistes don’t record for wealth – Lily Perez

4 months ago 7

Popular gospel artiste, Lily Perez, has revealed why most gospel artiste do not make music to enrich themselves. She explained quoting the bible that the ministers of God especially through music are fulfilled through the amounts of souls won for God.

She said, “The lucrativeness of the gospel is the number of lives transformed by the songs we sing, not in the financial gains. Jesus speaking in Mark 8:26 said, ‘What would it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his soul?’

“Hence showing that the wealth of the whole world does not equate to a man’s soul or salvation. So, we ‘brag’ differently. Thank God for digital streaming platforms that help us get back invested monies for more production.”

Although a ‘9 to 5’ worker in the International Recruitment industry the songstress stated that the major problem of singers, especially those in the gospel sector is finance.

“The major challenge we face is the same as all artistes face irrespective of what kind of music is done and it is a financial challenge. Money is needed to produce, mix and master quality music, and then after the release, we talk about promotions, all these things cost a lot of money.

“Also, we don’t have many companies or corporate organisations willing to support or sponsor gospel events as they do the secular events. Yes, a few supporters are there but it would be great to have more people, especially because a lot of these business owners or top executives are Christians and possibly leaders in churches. If they don’t support the kingdom, who will?”

Speaking of her new album, The Evidence, Perez married to iconic music executive VC Perez stated that it took her about two years to produce the project.

“The album took about two years to put together. I did a live recording in 2022 and recorded other songs within a period of two years and we just knew it was time to release the project. The response has been amazing.

“People have been blessed and we get testimonies every day even from friends. Listen, when friends and family share their testimonies with you, you know it’s real because no one sees you finish more than friends and family (Laugh). Also, we’ve gotten messages all across the world about how different songs on the album have blessed people. You know what, this is one album that everyone will find at least a song that connects with them.”
