What inspired you to pursue a career in the fashion industry?

My innate love for fashion inspired me to pursue a career in the fashion industry. I would say fashion has been a part of my DNA since childhood, and the fashion industry provides a unique platform for creativity and innovation.

How would you describe your signature and brand identity?

My signature and brand identity can be found in crafting elegant, enduring garments that exude classiness and style. Each piece is meticulously designed, with careful attention to detail, ensuring impeccable quality and craftsmanship. From luxurious fabrics to precise stitching, every element is thoughtfully considered to create a garment that stands the test of time. This commitment to excellence extends beyond aesthetics to provide a truly satisfying experience for every customer. With our dedication to perfection, wearing our creations evoke a sense of timeless elegance and unparalleled satisfaction, making each garment a cherished addition to any wardrobe.

Why did you decide to specialise in bridal fashion?

I chose to specialise in bridal fashion due to its profound significance in people’s lives. The opportunity to contribute to such a momentous occasion by creating timeless and unforgettable garments is incredibly fulfilling. Bridal fashion allows me to combine my passion for design with the joy of making dreams come true, resulting in a deeply rewarding career path.

What challenges do you face as a fashion designer and entrepreneur, and how do you overcome them?

Some of the challenges I have encountered include intense competition, managing production costs, and maintaining a steady clientele. I overcame those hurdles by focusing on innovation, building strong relationships with suppliers, and most importantly, leveraging social media for marketing and brand visibility.

Additionally, providing exceptional customer service and constantly refining my designs to meet evolving trends have been key to sustaining success.

Many tailors have the reputation of delivering customer’s orders late. What measures do you put in place to always deliver on time?

To ensure timely delivery, I implement strict scheduling and production timelines, closely monitor the progress, and communicate transparently with clients about realistic turnaround times. Additionally, I prioritise efficient workflow management, allocate resources effectively, and maintain open channels for feedback and adjustment throughout the process to overcome any potential delays.

How do you stay current with fashion trends and consumer preferences?

I stay current with fashion trends and consumer preferences by attending industry events and fashion shows. I also follow influential fashion blogs, magazines, and social media accounts to track emerging styles. Conducting market research and also seeking feedback from clients helps me stay informed and adapt my designs to meet evolving tastes and preferences.

How do you source materials and maintain quality control in your designs?

I carefully select materials from reputable suppliers, prioritising quality, sustainability, and ethical sourcing practices. Regular communication and visits to suppliers’ stores ensure consistency and reliability. Implementing thorough quality control measures throughout the production process, including rigorous inspections and testing, helps maintain high standards. Feedback from clients and continuous improvement initiatives also contribute to ensuring that each design meets or exceeds expectations.

How do you balance creativity with the business side of running a fashion brand?

Balancing creativity with business involves establishing a structured approach. I balance creativity with business by setting aside time for design and strategic planning, ensuring that both aspects receive attention. I stay updated on market trends and consumer preferences to make informed decisions. Delegating tasks to a competent team helps manage workload effectively, enabling me to focus on creative pursuits while maintaining the brand’s financial health.

Can you share a memorable success story or moment you’ve recorded in your career?

One of my most memorable moments as a fashion designer was when I created a dress for my first international client from the United States of America. It was a moment of immense pride and validation of my skills and craftsmanship. Additionally, being awarded the title of the ‘best fashion designer’ in Kwara State was a significant milestone that reinforced my dedication and passion for the craft.

How do you handle criticism and feedback?

As a fashion designer, I value constructive criticism and feedback on my designs as opportunities for growth and improvement. I approach them with an open mind, carefully considering each suggestion and evaluating how it aligns with my design vision, and the needs of my clients. I use feedback to refine my designs, enhance their appeal, and better meet the preferences of my audience while staying true to my creative vision.

How do you stay inspired and motivated in an industry that is fast-paced and demanding?

To stay inspired and motivated in the fast-paced fashion industry, I regularly seek inspiration from various sources such as art, nature, travel, and cultural influences. Additionally, I surround myself with a supportive network of fellow designers, mentors, and collaborators who share my passion and drive. Setting achievable goals, maintaining a healthy work-life balance, and celebrating small victories along the way also help to sustain my motivation and creativity.

Can you share any lessons learnt from mistakes that have shaped your approach to running a fashion brand?

One crucial lesson I have learnt is the importance of delegation in running a fashion brand. Initially, I insisted on handling every aspect of the business myself to ensure perfection. However, this approach led to burnout and inefficiency. Over time, I realised that delegating tasks to competent team members not only lightened my workload but also allowed for diverse perspectives and expertise, ultimately leading to better outcomes and business growth. This experience has shaped my approach to leadership and collaboration within my brand, emphasising the value of teamwork and trusting others to contribute to our success.

What advice do you have for aspiring fashion designers looking to start their own business?

My advice to aspiring fashion designers looking to start their own business is to remember that they are their own greatest motivation. They should believe in their vision and capabilities, stay committed to their passion, and persevere through challenges. They should also embrace continuous learning, seek mentorship, and network within the industry. Additionally, they should be willing to take risks, but also learn from failures and adapt. Most importantly, they should stay true to their unique voice and creative vision.

Can you tell us about your educational background?

I attended Learning Spring International School for my nursery and primary education. From there, I went on to Total Child Secondary School. I later bagged a National Diploma in Industrial and Labour Relations from the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies in Kwara State. I also bagged a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Relations and Personnel Management from the University of Ilorin.
