- The Premier League has explained why Stones' winner was allowed to stand after a controversial VAR review
Manchester City nicked another late goal to beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 on Sunday evening.
The champions were staring at the possibility of dropping points before John Stones stepped up with another late goal to secure all three points.
The defender, who also scored in City's dramatic two-all draw against Arsenal last month, rose highest to head in Phil Foden's corner in the last minute of stoppage time.
The wild celebrations were temporarily halted after referee Chris Kavanagh signalled that there had been an infringement on Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa as the corner came in.
Why John Stones goal vs Wolves was allowed to stand
Replays show that Bernardo Silva impeded his Portuguese compatriot while in an offside position as the ball came in. Silva, however, left the scene before Stones planted his head on the ball to send it goalwards.
Kavanagh was referred to the pitchside monitor with the official awarding the goal.
"Stones’ goal was disallowed on-field due to Bernardo Silva being in an offside position and in the goalkeeper’s line of vision. The VAR deemed Bernardo Silva wasn’t in the line of vision and had no impact on the goalkeeper and recommended an on-field review. The referee overturned his original decision and a goal was awarded," said the Premier League. The win takes Pep Guardiola's side to the top of the table with 20 points after eight games, momentarily ahead of Liverpool's game against Chelsea.
How many games Saliba will miss
Legit.ng had earlier reported why Saliba will only miss one game despite getting a direct red card vs Bournemouth.
Saliba was sent off after a last-man challenge on Evanilson, with the VAR recommending that the on-field yellow card be upgraded to a red card.
