Why Tinubu Promoted 34,000 Personnel In One Year – Minister

Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on August 7, detailed the reasons behind President Bola Tinubu‘s decision to promote 34,000 officers from the Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Correctional Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and Federal Fire Service in just one year.

Tunji-Ojo highlighted that this marks the first instance of such a large-scale promotion across all four services under the Ministry of Interior, addressing the stagnation many personnel experienced, some for over a decade.

He noted that the promotions were part of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, emphasizing that they were merit-based to ensure equal opportunities for advancement to leadership roles.

The Minister commended the personnel for their dedication to maintaining internal security, acknowledging their sacrifices for the country’s peace.

Naija News reports that Tunji-Ojo made these remarks at the NIS headquarters in Abuja after the decoration of newly promoted senior officers, including Deputy Comptroller Generals and Deputy Commandant Generals from the NSCDC, NCoS, and FFS.

In total, 79 senior officers from the four services were promoted to ranks such as DCGs, ACGs, Controllers, Comptrollers, and Commandants.

Tunji-Ojo stressed that efficiency and innovation are key drivers for the services, with the government committed to timely promotions and ensuring personnel receive their entitlements.

He assured that all eligible officers would be promoted by the end of September, reiterating that nepotism and favoritism have been eliminated from the promotion process.

However, he emphasized the importance of discipline and dedication for personnel to earn promotions and demonstrate loyalty to the nation, the President, and their service leaders.

Tunji-Ojo stated that President Tinubu has significantly improved the welfare and infrastructure of the services, citing the Command and Control Centre at the NIS headquarters, the establishment of Mining Marshals at the NSCDC, and the infrastructure at Kuje Correctional Centre as examples of the President’s achievements in the past year.
