Wike Insists PDP Is United In Rivers Despite Rift With Governor Fubara

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, has affirmed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains united in Rivers State despite the ongoing crisis between him and his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Wike, the former governor of Rivers State, made the statement during a media parley with selected journalists in Abuja on Wednesday.

“PDP is united in Rivers,” Wike stated, calling on aggrieved party members to put aside their differences and work together.

He pointed out the recent success of the PDP’s ward and local government congresses, which he described as “hitch-free.”

His remarks come amid a turbulent period in the oil-rich state, where tensions between Fubara and lawmakers loyal to Wike have frequently made headlines.

The rift between the two leaders has led to high-profile clashes, with Wike’s loyalists in the Rivers State House of Assembly recently overriding Governor Fubara on crucial legislative decisions.

Last year, Fubara survived an impeachment attempt from pro-Wike lawmakers, marking a peak in the ongoing power struggle.

Wike, who left office in May 2023 and later joined the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government as FCT Minister, stressed that some leaders have faced electoral losses but urged unity within the PDP ranks.
