Super Eagles of Nigeria defensive midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, has reportedly agreed on terms and is on the verge of signing a new contract with his club, Leicester City.

Wilfred Ndidi has spent over seven years of his football career at Leicester City and was expected to leave the club this summer after his contract expired on June 30, 2024.

When Leicester City released a list of players allowed to leave the club including Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho, Ndidi’s name wasn’t included as the club revealed that they were still negotiating a new deal with the Nigeria international.

Earlier, reports went viral that the 27-year-old Nigeria international rejected an offer from the newly promoted Premier League club because he wasn’t happy with the wages they were willing to pay.

Amid that, the fact that Wilfred Ndidi is available for free has attracted a host of clubs including FC Barcelona, Sevilla, Everton, Juventus, and others.

On Thursday, July 11, Naija News reported that Ndidi turned down an offer from Sevilla because he wants to remain in the Premier League beyond this summer.

On the other hand, a Spanish publication, Footmercato, reported that Wilfred Ndidi has reached an agreement with Leicester City for a new deal.

The publication wrote: “Wilfred Ndidi had all the makings of a good deal for OM, OL and AS Monaco. At the end of his contract with Leicester, the 27-year-old Nigerian international midfielder was inclined to discover a new environment and opened the door wide to Ligue 1.

“Despite discussions with the clubs mentioned above, the man with 57 caps for the Super Eagles is not expected to cross the Channel this summer and for good reason.

“According to our information, Ndidi has reached an agreement with the Foxes for a contract extension. Good news for Leicester who will be able to count this season on a player who has been playing for 7 and a half years in the former club of Riyad Mahrez and N’Golo Kanté.”

At the time of writing, Leicester City nor the representatives of Ndidi have yet to comment on this development.
