Ex-Arsenal defender, William Gallas believes that for the club to enhance their chances of winning the Premier League title, they should consider replacing Kai Havertz with Victor Osimhen.
Gallas acknowledges that Mikel Arteta has faced scrutiny for signing Kai Havertz from Chelsea in the summer of 2023, especially with the need for a natural centre-forward.
While Havertz initially found it challenging to settle at Emirates Stadium, he has since established himself as a valuable member of the Gunners’ attack, making 68 appearances and scoring 21 goals.
In the ongoing 2024-2025 season, Havertz started strong, netting four goals in his first seven Premier League matches; however, he hasn’t scored in his last four league outings.
Gallas, who had a four-year tenure at Arsenal, suggests that Arteta might want to explore the option of bringing in Osimhen, who is currently on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli, to bolster the team’s attack.
Speaking to Genting Casino, Gallas said: “While Kai Havertz is a talented player, I believe Arsenal could benefit from a more traditional striker to aspire to Premier League triumph. Victor Osimhen is a player who has shown he can perform at the highest level, especially during his time at Napoli. It’s surprising to see him at Galatasaray, as he has the potential to thrive in the Premier League and could add great value to Arsenal’s squad.”
He further emphasized, “For a club like Arsenal to challenge consistently, it’s essential to build a strong squad. Competitiveness within the team, akin to what teams like Man City and Liverpool exhibit, is vital. Relying on the same starting XI week after week can hinder performance levels. Having depth in quality, with players capable of stepping up, is crucial for maintaining a high standard throughout the season.”
