As World Youths Day was celebrated yesterday, African Democratic Congress (ADC) said the plight of Nigerian youths, who wallowed in abject poverty, hunger, and unemployment, deserved sober reflection.
A statement by ADC’s National Chairman, Ralph Nwosu, lamented that as youths of the world converge this year with the theme: ‘Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World,’ Nigerian young men and women were distraught.
The party noted: “With hunger, unemployment and poverty ravaging over 60 per cent of the populace while their political leaders lavish in opulence, Nigerian youths had to resort to #EndBadGovernance protest.”
Nwosu condemned the attitude of people in authority towards the sufferings of youths adding that frustrated by the attitude of people in authority and the APC establishment, youths, who were not ordinarily prone to protests, had to vent their anger in protest.
While condoling with families that lost their members during the protest, he said the citizen would not certainly die in vain.
The statement adds: “Coincidentally, the 10 days protest steeps into the eve of the 2024 World’s Youth Day. This calls for a more conscientious reflection to make sure that this commemoration heralds the end to our lamentations and years of gloom.”
“The time coincidence signals a clarion call to all patriots, young and old that it is time to ditch the inglorious years, and chart a new trajectory to the nation of our dream. I hope you agree with me, that the ten-day protest coupled with the 2024 International Youth Day and its theme, sound loud enough warning and gives the redemption leeway for Nigeria to arise and shine”
