A frontline women’s rights and community development advocacy group, Women Support Women Community Network (WOSCONET), has commended the Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, for his continuous effort to empower women in agriculture.

This recognition follows the enrollment of several Enugu women and youths in the 90-Day Youth Free Agro Boot Camp at Songhai Farms, Owerri, Imo State. The boot camp, which is part of a larger initiative aimed at fostering youth involvement in agriculture, is sponsored by the Enugu State Government in collaboration with the Mastercard Foundation and Songhai Farms.

In a statement signed by the President of WOSCONET, Mrs. Amaka Nweke, the organisation expressed gratitude to the governor for his “unwavering commitment to agricultural development and food security in the state.”

Nweke described the initiative as a significant step towards empowering women and youth, especially in the agricultural sector. She said: “We are happy to announce that some of our members are beneficiaries of the ongoing distribution of free fertilizers, power tillers, and other agro-inputs for registered farmers in Enugu State.

“This is a demonstration of Governor Peter Mbah’s dedication to improving agricultural productivity, and alleviating poverty.” She further highlighted the group’s recent collaboration with the State Ministry of Agriculture and Agroindustrialisation, led by the Commissioner, Patrick Nwabueze Ubru, praising him for ensuring that WOSCONET members were included in the agricultural support programmes.
