Yobe Health Workers Suspend Planned Strike

The Yobe State branch of the Health Workers Association, has suspended its planned industrial action scheduled to begin on Monday, September 2, 2024.

Deputy Governor of the state, Hon Idi Barde Gubana, on Friday met with the leadership of the health workers’ union in Damaturu where the agreement to shelve the proposed strike was reached.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the delegation of the workers, led by its chairman, Dr. Umar Ahmad Aliyu, presented the association’s demands to the state government.

Responding to the demands, the Deputy Governor explained that the state government would look into their demands which includes disputes surrounding the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS), Consolidated Health Salary Structure CONHESS and Hazard Allowances, by the end of September 2024.

He also appealed to the health workers to suspend the planned industrial action, and resume their humanitarian work as doctors.

Gubana further highlighted that their services as valuable and commendable, noting that they save lives of thousands of people in, and around the state.

He called on members of the association to continue their support and maximum cooperation with the government of Yobe State in the interest of the citizens.
