You Can Protest In Abuja – Police To Citizens

2 months ago 4

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has said Abuja residents can protest in the country’s capital city.

The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh said Abuja residents have right to protest and the police command would not prevent citizens from exercising their rights.

On Friday night, on her X handle, Adeh said protesters should also carry the police along to ensure protection. She added that police protection of the protesters would ensure hoodlums do not hijack peaceful protest of citizens.

The FCT police command is not preventing any residents in the territory from protesting. It is your lawful right to protest but please carry us along so we can provide you with adequate protection and prevent the protest from being hijacked by those with inordinate motives.

“A breakdown of law and order in the name of protest will not be condoned in the FCT,” Adeh wrote.

SP Adeh’s statement comes amid calls for protest by citizens as Nigeria’s economy bites harder, food prices remain high and inflation continues to get higher.

Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has called on citizens to shelve the protest idea.

Kalu said protest was not the right decision for the country. He advised Nigerians against imitating the Kenya citizens.
