The president of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, has sent a strong warning to Israel over the killing of Hamas political leader, Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.

Pezeshkian vowed that Israel will regret its action over the “cowardly” killing of the Hamas leader.

Taking to his account on the X platform, where he mourned the death of Haniyey, Pezeshkian said the Islamic Republic of Iran would defend its territorial integrity, honour, dignity and pride.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran will defend its territorial integrity, honour, pride and dignity, and make the terrorist invaders regret their cowardly action,” said Pezeshkian, who described the late Haniyeh as “a brave leader”.

Naija News recalls Haniyeh was killed in an Israeli strike in Iran, where he had been attending the inauguration of the country’s new president.

Haniyeh’s death followed an Israeli operation on Tuesday that targeted a Hezbollah stronghold in southern Beirut, resulting in the death of a high-ranking commander from the Iran-supported group, which Israel attributed to a recent rocket attack on the Golan Heights, an area annexed by Israel.

Brother, leader, mujahid Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the movement, died in a Zionist strike on his headquarters in Tehran after he participated in the inauguration of the new (Iranian) president,” the Palestinian militant group confirmed in a statement released on Wednesday morning.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards also confirmed the development stating that Haniyeh’s residence in Tehran was “hit”, and he was killed along with a bodyguard.
