The newly appointed chairman of the governing council of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Isa Yuguda, has stated his objective of positioning the institution among the top universities in the world.
The former Bauchi State governor stated this during his inaugural meeting with the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Peters and other top management of the University in Abuja yesterday.
The federal government had on Thursday inaugurated the governing councils of universities, polytechnics and other federal tertiary institutions in the country.
Speaking during the meeting, Yuguda said the council would ‘hit the ground running’ at NOUN.
by joining forces with the University so as to make a difference.
“We know our assignment here and we know the constitution of the University and I’m assuring you that we will not interfere in what the University is doing. We will play the game by the rules.
“We just started and we will put ourselves together to know what they have as budget and what they need to function efficiently,” he said.
This is just as he promised to mobilise necessary resources both from the government and private for smooth running of the Institution.
Also speaking, Peters commended the president for constituting the team lead by Yuguda who has a massive experience to govern NOUN.
