The Zamfara State Government said it has uncovered 20 ghost workers as medical doctors under the verification committee working to ensure the full implementation of the N70,000 naira minimum wage for civil servants in the state.
Addressing a Press Conference in Gusau on Wednesday, the State Head of Service and Chairman of the Workers Verification Committee, Ahmed Liman, said that during the verification exercise across sectors, the committee discovered 20 Medical Doctors as Ghost Workers.
Liman, the state government will fully implement the seventy thousand naira minimum wage after the verification exercise, which is expected to finish by the end of November.
The Head of Service further explained that the committee uncovered more than 20 Medical Doctors as Ghost Workers and those exposed as ghost workers from various ministries, which will be announced at the end of the exercise.
He said the state currently has 34,000 employees, except local government employees, stressing that the committee is making sure to present to the Governor the accurate and genuine workforce for implementing the minimum wage.
“I assure you that at the end of the verification exercise, the government will approve the full implementation of the new minimum wage after receiving the committee report.”
“The verification committee headed by me, including leaders of the two workers’ unions, Nigeria Labour Union (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), is working assiduously to make sure the exercise is completed and to reach the targeted period of the report submission”.
