One Victor Udensi, an employee of Zenith Bank from the Umuahia branch, along with two other individuals in Umuahia have been reportedly shot dead by some gunmen.
The Commissioner of Police in Abia State, CP Danladi Isa, confirmed this on Thursday during a press conference at the police headquarters in Umuahia, where he presented several suspects.
The CP, however, reassured the public that those responsible for the crime would be apprehended and held accountable.
He detailed that Udensi had stopped at the Isi Court Axis of Olokoro in Umuahia South around 8 p.m. after completing his workday when he was confronted by three armed assailants in a Keke.
They attempted to force him into the trunk of his vehicle.
In a bid to escape, Udensi resisted, but the attackers shot him in the back, leaving him gravely injured on the ground.
Following this, the assailants made an unsuccessful attempt to start Udensi’s car before targeting another unsuspecting driver in a Camry.
“When they attempted to forcefully take his car key, the driver resisted. The armed men, however, shot him, killing him instantly,” Isa said.
While attempting to escape towards Ubakala, the assailants came across a Keke that they perceived as hindering their flight and subsequently shot the driver fatally.
It was gathered that bystanders quickly transported Udensi to the hospital; however, he was declared dead shortly after receiving medical attention.
The Commissioner of Police further indicated that law enforcement has initiated a manhunt for the perpetrators.
