The Oyo State Police Command has announced the successful rescue of a pastor and his wife who suspected kidnappers abducted in the state.
The police stated that the pastor and his wife, whose names were not disclosed, had travelled to a remote area for prayers when they were reportedly abducted and warned worshippers to avoid isolated locations.
The command disclosed this in an advisory statement to residents for the end-of-year celebrations, shared on its official X.com handle.
A photo of the four suspected abductors accompanied the advisory notes released on Tuesday.
In its advisory, the command stated that the pastor and his wife were abducted while praying at an isolated mountain, prompting other worshippers in the area to flee for safety.
“The command just secured an abducted pastor and his wife at the hinterland while fellowshipping on an isolated mountain, causing fellow worshippers to flee like they were possessed,” the command stated.
It warned residents of the state to avoid using isolated areas for their events.
When PUNCH Metro contacted the command’s spokesperson, Adewale Osifeso, for further details on Tuesday, he declined calls and did not respond to a text message sent to his mobile phone.
Recall that earlier on December 27, 2024, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Ayodele Sonubi, paraded some suspected kidnappers along with other criminals at the command headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan.
The police stated that those paraded were members of a kidnapping syndicate responsible for terrorising the Ashipa community in the Atiba Local Government Area.
The police reportedly stated that the suspects were part of the group that invaded the community on November 9, 2024.
