The new executive committee of the Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party was on Monday inaugurated, as the new chairman pledged the establishment of a shadow government to checkmate Governor Alex Otti and his Labour Party government in the state.

Recall that on November 3, a new executive of the party emerged with Elder Amah Abraham Nnanna, the party’s former vice chairman Abia North/acting Publicity Secretary as the state chairman in a state congress presided over by the deputy governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.

Speaking after the inauguration on Monday, Elder Nnanna disclosed, “In no distant time, we are going to establish a shadow government that will take over the responsibility of running the most proactive shadow government in any part of the country.

“They will have the equivalent of all the ministries with commissioners and other appointments and people who will be saddled with the responsibility of interfacing with the government of the day and putting them in check and making sure that at all time they (state government) deliver nothing short of good governance to the people of Abia State. We are committed to that”.

He further explained that the shadow government will provide an alternative through the shadow commission and commissioners.

He added that in a few hours’ time, “we are also going to unveil another committee that will be saddled with the responsibility of reconciliation,” stating that former deputy governor of the state, Ude Oko Chukwu, is a member of the national reconciliation committee.

He stated, “I have interfaced with him and in his response, he has promised to make sure that the committee will work in Abia State.

“So, what we intend to do is to interface with all those who have left our party and make sure that they come back.”

He revealed that a good number of such people have already reached out to the new executive, and have already indicated their interest to come back to the party.

“I promise you, you are going to see Abia PDP at its best. In the next three weeks, we will be unveiling the Abia Agenda. It is going to be a magazine which will be a mouthpiece of Abia PDP.”

He thereafter dissolved the party’s Elders’ Council and established a new one headed by Onyema Ugochukwu, an Abia elder statesman and former Chairman of the Nigeria Delta Development Commission.
