The governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, has assured widows of fallen heroes in the state of employment opportunities.

Abiodun made the promise during the launch of the year 2025-Armed Forces Remembrance Day emblem on Tuesday.

He added that the yearly donation for the Legion would be increased from N10,000,000 to N15,000,000.

Abiodun said, “I am instructing the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) to work with the Chairman of the legion to identify the widows that we can be employed immediately.

“On the same note of empowering widows, I have instructed my Deputy alongside the Commissioner for Women Affairs, that the widows of our fallen heroes should be included in our Nigeria for Women Project immediately.”

He stated that the emblem being unveiled represents reverence, thankfulness, and steadfast support for the men and women who have given their lives to preserve the unity of the country, and that their sacrifices will never be forgotten.

According to the governor, the Armed Forces Remembrance Day serves as a reminder to all Nigerians of their obligation to care for the welfare of the Nigerian Legion and to support the families of the dead heroes.

He noted that his administration would continue to support the Nigerian Army and all members of its sister security agencies, despite their placement on the exclusive list, adding that his administration would continue to allocate resources to equip security agencies in the state.

The governor pointed out that the gathering was beyond mere date marking on the calendar, but a day to pay tribute to the extraordinary sacrifices of those who have served the country diligently.

In his remarks, the State Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Master Warrant Officer Orukotan Olumuyiwa (Rtd) noted that the launch of the emblem symbolizes sacrifices made by men of the Armed Forces in battlefields for the restoration of peace and maintenance of the territorial integrity of the country.

Olumuyiwa commended the Ogun State governor for continuously providing financial support for widows of the fallen heroes, commending him for not leaving out other veterans in the state from governments welfare packages.
