Adekunle Gold Features On Glo-powered CNN African Voices

This weekend’s edition of the CNN magazine programme, African Voices Playmakers, will feature Afropop singer, Adekunle Almaruf Kosoko, popularly known as Adekunle Gold.

Gold will let viewers into the history of his journey in the Nigerian music industry and his plan for the future on the programme which comes up on Saturday at 8. 30 a.m. on DSTV Channel 401. Repeats of the programme will be aired the same Saturday at 12.00 noon; on Sunday at 4.30 a.m., and 7.00 p.m. The edition will be repeated on Monday at 4.00 a.m., next week Saturday at 8.30 a.m., 12 noon and on Sunday at 4.30 a.m. and 7.00 p.m. and on Monday at 4.00 a.m.

37-year-old Gold hit the limelight after releasing his first single ‘Sade’, a cover of One Direction’s “ Story of my Life”. The song became an instant hit and was nominated for Best Alternative Song at The Headies.  This was followed by the release of his first official single entitled “ Orente” through YBNL Nation after signing a music contract with the record label in 2015, the same year he was nominated in the Most Promising Act of the Year category.

His career has since progressed to a higher level in the Nigerian Music industry and Gold has received multiple awards for his outstanding contributions. These include Best New Act Award of the Nigeria Entertainment Awards in 2015 and 2016, the City People Entertainment Awards for Album of the Year in 2016 and 2017; the Best African Music Artist of IARA in 2017 and Songwriter of the Year for The Headies, 2023.

Adekunle Gold who battled sickle cell disease behind closed doors for his entire life, recently lent his superstar status to raise awareness and rally support for those living with the ailment.
