Ondo State Governor, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has expressed optimism about the state’s steady progress, emphasising its journey towards all-round development and prosperity.

This comes as the state marks its 49th anniversary on Monday.

PUNCH Online reports that Ondo was among seven states created in 1976, expanding Nigeria’s state count from 12 to 19.

Aiyedatiwa took the opportunity to acknowledge and commend the founding fathers for their remarkable efforts in shaping the state into what it is today.

The governor’s opinion was conveyed in a message to the people of Ondo, shared on Monday through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Ebenezer Adeniyan.

Ondo State, created on February 3, 1976, from the old Western Region under the military administration of General Murtala Muhammed, has had 19 governors — 12 military and seven civilian, including Aiyedatiwa himself.

In his anniversary message, Governor Aiyedatiwa praised the state’s founding fathers for their “courage, foresight, and invaluable contributions towards making Ondo State what it is today,” highlighting the state’s journey towards “sustainable development and inclusive growth, with the potential to be greater.”

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to building upon the legacies of past leaders, Aiyedatiwa emphasised, “My administration is committed to maximising the state’s potential for the benefit of all its people.”

The governor also congratulated the people of Ondo on the anniversary, urging them to continue supporting his administration as he steers the state towards a brighter future.
