The Police in Anambra State have gunned down a suspected secessionist operating in the Aguata area of the state.

The spokesperson of the state police command, Superintendent Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain suspect.

He said operatives of the police command engaged a gang operating in a black Prado Jeep along the Igbo Ukwu/Ezinifite/Uga road. While one of the suspects was killed, the others managed to escape.

In a press release made available to journalists on Monday afternoon, Ikenga said the incident occurred on Sunday at midday.

He explained: “On 29/9/2024 at 11:30 p.m., the Police-led Security Force, while on patrol within Aguata LGA, received information about suspected armed men sighted in a black Prado Jeep along the Igbo Ukwu/Ezinifite/Uga axis.

“The operatives, in an offensive approach to the scene, engaged the armed men in a gun battle and neutralized one of the miscreants while the others escaped.”

He added that the Security Forces recovered two AK-47 rifles, one pump-action gun, two magazines loaded with live ammunition, 15 live cartridges, and a black Prado Jeep with two different plate numbers.

Additionally, two police body-armored vests, three fez caps, one black handbag, and various charms were recovered during the operation.
