The Senate has confirmed President Bola Tinubu’s appointment of Omolola Oloworaran as the Director General of the National Pension Commission, PenCom.

President Tinubu had last month written to the Senate seeking confirmation of Oloworaran’s appointment as the new DG.

The confirmation, done during Thursday’s plenary, was sequel to the adoption of the report of the Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Service, chaired by Senator Cyril Fasuyi (APC, Ekiti North).

Presenting the report, Senator Fasuyi said the committee observed that the nominee possessed the legal requirement specified under the provisions of sections 19 (2), (5)(6), and 26 of the Pension Reform Act 2014, Act No. 4 necessary for appointment to the position of Director-General of PenCom.

According to the chairman, there was no objection against Oloworaran’s appointment at the time of presenting the report

He said the committees established both in fact and in law that the nominee has satisfied the requisite requirements and “is hereby affirmed to be qualified, fit and proper person suitable for appointment as the Director-General of the National Pension Commission.”

The Senate accordingly approved the nomination of Oloworaran for appointment as the Director General of PenCom when Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, who presided over the plenary, put the recommendation of the committee to voice vote for the determination of senators.

President Tinubu had on Wednesday written to the Senate requesting confirmation of the appointment of the new DG

The letter read: “I write in accordance with the provisions of Section 26(1) of the Pension Reform Act, 2014, to forward to the Senate for confirmation, Omolola Oloworaran, as Director-General of PenCom.

“While I hope that the Senate will consider and confirm the nominee in the usual expeditious manner, please accept, Distinguished Senate President, the assurances of my highest consideration and regards.”
