After losing their first-choice goalkeeper, Ojo Olorunleke, to a Sudanese club, Al Merreikh, Enyimba have lost another player, Anthony Okachi ahead of the 2024-2025 season.
Anthony Okachi said he is embarking on a “new chapter in my football journey”, without confirming his next destination.
The 23-year-old centre-forward moved to Enyimba from Shooting Stars on July 29, 2023. In the just-concluded season, the striker scored just two goals and provided two assists in 20 games in all competitions.
Due to his not-too-encouraging form, he couldn’t establish himself at the NPFL giants as much as expected, hence, he has decided to continue his football career elsewhere.
In a statement he shared on his X page earlier today, July 12, Anthony Okachi thanked his fans and Enyimba as he confirmed that he is on a quest to find new challenges.
His statement reads: “It is with a heavy heart that I write this letter to you today. After much contemplation and soul-searching, I have made the difficult decision to leave Enyimba FC.
“This decision did not come lightly, as I have hoped to spend many years with this outstanding club, but sometimes, our wishes don’t always go as we planned and now I have to move on in search of new challenges and opportunities.
“I want to take this moment to express my deepest gratitude to every one of you. You have been there for me through the highs and lows, supporting me with unwavering loyalty and love. Your chants, cheers, and encouragement have fueled my every step on the field, and I will forever cherish the memories we have created together.
“Enyimba FC has been more than just a club to me; it has been a home, a family. The camaraderie and unity amongst the players and staff is unmatched, and I will carry these valuable lessons with me throughout my career. The dedication and professionalism that I have witnessed at Enyimba FC have played a significant role in shaping me as a player and as an individual. For that, I am eternally grateful.
“As I embark on this new chapter in my football journey, I want to assure you that Enyimba FC will always hold a special place in my heart.”
