The Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) has postponed the date for the planned elections of local government area chairmen and councilors in the State.
LEADERSHIP reports that Bauchi State conducted the last local government elections in October 2020, where the rulling party in the state, PDP, won all chairmenship and councilourship seats.
Since after the expiration of tenure of the elected chairmen and councilors, all the 20 local government chairmen and vice chairmen were being appointed as interim basis at different intervals.
Executive Chairman of BASIEC, Ahmed Makama, in a statement made available to journalists in Bauchi on Friday, said the initial plan to hold the elections on August 10 this year could not be sustained due some reasons, which he did not disclose.
He said the elections will now take place on Saturday, August 17, 2024.
Makama called on political parties and other stakeholders to note the new adjustment and tidy internal mechanisms ahead of the exercise.
