The Bauchi State Government has declared Monday, July 8, 2024 as a work-free day to commemorate Al-Muharram, the first day of the Islamic calendar.
This was contained in a statement signed on Sunday by the governor’s media aide, Muktar Gidado, explaining that “the gesture underscores the administration’s respect for the religious and cultural values of our Muslim community, offering an opportunity for reflection, prayer, and celebration.”
It further stated that, “The Bauchi State Government acknowledges the importance of Al-Muharram as a time of renewal and spiritual growth for our Muslim brothers and sisters.”
It stated that Governor Bala Mohammed equally extends his best wishes to all citizens observing this important day, encouraging everyone to engage in activities that promote peace, unity, and understanding within a diverse society.
The statement therefore asked that government offices, schools, and banks are to observe the work-free day and normal activities will resume on Tuesday.
Mohammed prayed that the New Year will usher in more prosperity, good health, harmony, and peaceful coexistence.
