The Presidency has offered clarifications regarding the recent reshuffling of President Bola Tinubu‘s cabinet, emphasizing that the affected ministers were not sacked but rather “discharged” from their duties.

The clarification came from Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Tinubu, during a conversation with TVC.

Onanuga stressed that the term “sacked” inaccurately reflects the circumstances surrounding the ministers’ departure from the cabinet.

“Ministers were not sacked; they were discharged,” he explained, suggesting a more neutral connotation to their exit.

The reshuffle, which was announced on Wednesday, led to the discharge of seven ministers, including Uju-Ken Ohanenye from Women Affairs, Lola Ade-John from Tourism, Tahir Mamman from Education, Abdullahi Gwarzo from Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, and Jamila Ibrahim from Youth Development.

Concurrently, seven new appointments were made, signifying a fresh phase in Tinubu’s administration.

In a related development, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, on Wednesday disclosed that his office is actively collaborating with the Head of Civil Service of the Federation to carry out the presidential directive on the merger and winding down of several ministries.

Akume in a statement released in Abuja confirmed that directives have been issued to facilitate the implementation of the President’s approval.
