Members of the Kano Pillars FC U-19 team were injured in a road accident on Tuesday while travelling to New Jos Stadium for their Matchday 5 fixture against Plateau United U-19 in the inaugural U-19 Youth League.
The accident, which involved several players and the team’s driver, necessitated immediate medical attention, according to the media directorate of Kano Pillars.
The team was on its way to participate in a scheduled game when the incident occurred, casting a shadow over the day’s sporting activities. Emergency services quickly responded to the scene, and the injured were transported to a nearby hospital.
The media directorate stated, “Thankfully, no fatalities have been reported at this time, and the medical team is closely monitoring the situation.
“We extend our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to everyone affected and will provide further updates as more information becomes available.”
Naija News reports that this incident comes two months after former Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) club, Heartland were involved in a ghastly bus accident which claimed the life of their head coach and former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Christian Obi.
The accident happened in Umunna, near Okigwe in Imo State, while Heartland players and coaching crew were en route to Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, for the Ifeanyi Ekwueme TICO/SELECT preseason tournament.
