Kano state - Hajiya Bilkisu has accused Malam Baban Iya, Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Dawakin Tofa LGA, Kano State, of assaulting her at the government house.

When the incident occurred, she was in line to receive N50,000 from the state's monthly women empowerment programme.

From her hospital bed, Hajiya Bilkisu claimed she sustained severe injuries to her face, chest, back, and neck due to the attack, Daily Trust reported.

Bilkisu recounted ordeal

She recounted that her ordeal began when her name was removed from the list of beneficiaries.

An official reportedly called the NNPP chairman, who then arrived and brutally assaulted her.

Hajiya Bilkisu has called for police intervention to ensure she receives justice.

When contacted, Malam Baban Iya admitted to beating the woman but stated it was due to a different issue.

The police spokesman, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed that the police would investigate the matter.

Mob beat up NNPP lawmaker

Interestingly, on Monday, July 22, a member of the Kano State House of Assembly, Abdul-Majid Umar, was beaten up by a mob at an event attended by the deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado-Bayero, on Saturday, Premium Times reported.

The mob reportedly accused him of supporting the bill to dethrone the emir.

The mob reportedly injured the lawmaker before he escaped into a police patrol vehicle.

2027: Kwankwaso unveils new logo, constitution for NNPP

In a different development, Legt.ng reported that amid the internal crisis rocking the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the party's flagbearer in the 2023 presidential election, has formally unveiled a new logo.

The former governor of Kano state said the decision was reached following NNPP’s 2023 post-elections performance assessment, noting that the new logo speaks to their desire to have a widely educated Nigerian populace and reflects the party’s commitment to peaceful development ahead of the 2027 election.

This is coming a few days after the ruling APC maintained that NNPP in Kano state will record a heavy loss and that Governor Yusuf's every action will work in their favour in 2027.
